Information
on QA Scheme: Oocyte/Cleavage/Blastocyst Ranking -2025
Comment = Oocytes/Cleavage and Blastocyst Stage Ranking and Selection-2012. In most clinics, one embryologist will grade and rank the embryos for transfer , freezing or for discard. Yet there is no real way to determine that the allocation of embryos is the same among scientists. This Proficiency scheme aims to provide a tool to allow managers and embryologists to assess the variability if any between staff and between clinics. The tool asks each participant to rank between 4 and 10 embryos by quality and calculates a ranking based upon whether they agree with the majority of other respondents. The ranking weights the embryos by their quality where agreement with the best embryos scores higher than with the poorest embryo. The sum of scores allocated to each embryo is calculated as a percent of the maximum score. Ones ranking index will continue to change as the number of participants increases. The aim is to encourage uniformity between embryologists more importantly within each clinic than between clinics since each clinic may have varying rules for grading and selection. This scheme is meant to provide a guide only and is not intended to be a marked of actually proficiency. This can only be assessed internally. It may be used as a training tool and for auditing purposes.
