ESHRE consensus on the definition of poor response to ovarian stimulation for IVF
The definition the poor response in IVF, at least two of the following three features must be present: (i) advanced maternal age or any other risk factor for POR; (ii) a previous POR; and (iii) an abnormal ovarian reserve test (ORT).
Reasons for a definition.
The authors point out that various terms such as poor, low, bad, slow, suboptimal have been used to describe patients with few oocytes at egg recovery. Recent minimal stimulation seeks to recover only 1-2 oocytes so poor in one type of stimulation cycle may differ from another type. Standardisation allows uniformity in patient selection in research projects and clarity in publications. The authors note that the intention is NOT to exclude patients from treatment.
