112. Sitting and Life risks [Forum/Discussion]

Comment: It may seem silly but IVF Laboratory staff spend a lot of time sitting for ICSI and PDG. IS this an occupational risk and should there be guidelines
Submission: There is little OH&S issues in an IVF lab compared to other industries. However, the time spent sitting may have long term consequences. Some of these may not manifest themselves until after their IVF career is over. The time spent sitting may be one of these risks and possibly, clinics and embryology societies may well benefit from setting some guidelines. For example, a scientist should not sit in one place (doing an ICSI or PDG) for more than 1 hour in ever 2 hours and no more than say 4hr/shift. If there are no guidelines then clinics may find themselves in litigation a few year down the track.
