IVFD A novel atypical sperm centriole is functional during human fertilization
Altogether, we show that the DC is compositionally and structurally remodeled into an atypical centriole, which functions as the zygote’s second centriole. These findings now provide novel avenues for diagnostics and therapeutic strategies for male infertility, and insights into early embryo developmental defects.

IVFD Relationship between blastocoel cell-free DNA and day-5 blastocyst morphology
Conclusions This study provides further evidence that cfDNA is present in blastocoel fluid, can be quantified, and positively correlates with embryonic morphology. There is also evidence that at least a portion of the cfDNA present is from intracellular contents of embryonic cells that underwent apoptosis.

IVFD Exploring early human embryo development
Human in vitro fertilization (IVF) has been around for 40 years and yet we still do not fully understand how to ensure the generation of healthy embryos and to prevent unwanted genetic or epigenetic changes that may arise during in vitro culture. Once the embryo is transferred to the uterus to continue gestation, early implantation and the initial phases of embryogenesis and placenta formation are hidden from easy access for research.

IVFD Infertility treatments during pregnancy and the risk of autism Spectrum disorder in the offspring
Results showed that IVF treatment compared with spontaneous conception was not statistically significantly associated with the risk of ASD. Only progesterone hormone treatment was associated with a statistically significant (p :< :.05) increased risk of ASD (RR := :1.51, 95% CI 1.22, 1.86) compared to the group with no progesterone treatment. In conclusion, progesterone exposure during the critical period of fetal life elevat

Title
Is there a link between IVF treatment and autism in the male offspring
Summary
A recent epidemiology study from Israel found that IVF treatment (FSH) was not related to autism in male IVF offspring but first trimester exposure to progesterone appeared to increase the likelihood
Comment
Some concerns over whether autism spectrum disorder may be more likely after IVF was the subject of this large epidemiological paper from Israel and in particular the hormonal exposure during fertility treatment on male IVF offspring. Comprising of over 108,000 male children born between 1999 and 2008, the study looked at exposure to FSH/LH, Clomiphene Citrate, Progesterone,hCG and GnRH with/ without IVF.|The authors report that children conceived after IVF including FET, were at no greater risk to autism (readers need to access the article for definitions of autism) than children conceived without IVF. This is good news for IVF clinics where the risks of late childhood illness are a ticking time bomb.|However, it was not all good news since the authors also identified children exposed to progesterone in the first trimester were at a small but significantly greater risk (P<0.05) of being identified on the autism spectrum disorder register (RR=1.51). Exposure after 30 days did not appear to be important.|The authors list a number of limitations of the study but the results suggest further studies are warranted. They suggest that progesterone may 'exert an epigenetic fetal programming mechanism for autism' in the developing brain.|Not withstanding, exposure to progesterone either for pregnancy support after pituitary down-regulation and ovulation induction or for support for high-risk pregnancies may now need further monitoring and, if deemed appropriate, explanation in included in patient fact sheets, etc. Even though the risk of autism is very low (0.9%), maybe some IVF clients need to be made aware of the risk when progesterone is prescribed. At the time when a pregnancy may be at risk, most will accept the risk but 4 years later maybe not so?.|
